Excellent article! Girl, you GO for making it available for us! Thank you!
As senseless and horrible as the war in Iraq is, I can only relate to it as a bystander, from half a world away.
I have no such trouble in understanding the consequences of the inaction and incompetence of Washington and it's pathetic response to the catastrophic near-destruction of a major American city. I have only to walk out my door, or drive around town. Even now, closing in on two years later, thousands of New Orleanians still live in far-away cities - unable to come home - or live in FEMA temporary house trailers - because of monumental red tape and a total inability to get the available aide to people who desperately need it. There is a sense here that "Washington" doesn't really give a rat's tiny ass about us. And now, we discover that the massive pumps that are supposed to draw water from the drainage canals in the event of another huge hurricane, were known by the Army Corps of Engineers to be defective when they were installed and that the company that made them has strong ties to Jeb Bush. Go figure.
Someday we will have another president and things will BEGIN to improve - but the damage to the prestige of the United States of America will take years, if not decades to repair.

Thanks for the link to the article.
What can we do? Vote! We have an opportunity to return Democrats and remove Republicans from the House and Senate in 2008:

In the meantime, keep blogging, keep writing in to our electorate.
