just call me butch

Oh my, does this piss me off.

Women who display what many regard as traditional male traits - such as assertiveness, independence and ambition - are more often the targets of sexual harassment than "feminine" women. . ."

assertiveness? independence? ambition? fuck.

As this article is from my part of the 'world' I read the link and come to the conclusion it's an 'aussie' bloke thing!! Hopefully the 'butch' women give as good as they get!
Straight men have such problems with 'assertive' women! I think it sez more about their perceived 'masculinity'.

BJ. downunder in NZ!.

When looking for a job, it's very important to look for a nondiscrimination policy that covers "gender" as well as "sex," for this very reason.

Of course, ambition and assertiveness are not exclusively
male traits any more than kindness and charity are exclusively female -- but as we all know, sexual harassment originates in insecurity, not desire. It's all about keeping women in their place, so it makes total sense that it happens more often to women who dare to succeed and, in many cases, outshine men where it counts -- in the BOARDroom.

Yeah, that attitude has come back to bite me in the ass many times, and those of my diva friends.

What gets me is when I see a smart, bright woman defer to a man in the board room simply because it's the smart "office political" thing to do. Aaarghh!

AAUGH! Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

We're screwed at both ends of the societal gender trait spectrum: Act too "female" and we're not to be taken seriously. Act too "male" and suddenly we're threatening and need to be taken down a notch. And over all of it, we're judged according to the FQ -- fuckability quotient.
