republican predicts police state
Unbearable. I may stay in Jamaica.
"Americans think their danger is terrorists," said Roberts. "They don't understand the terrorists cannot take away habeas corpus, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution. ... The terrorists are not anything like the threat that we face to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution from our own government in the name of fighting terrorism. Americans just aren't able to perceive that."

I am far more terrified of my own government at this point than I ever have been of any other terrorist threat..
Wow. That was excellent. Really good.
Every year I have fill out a specific form to "opt out" of recruiters calling my kids, and take it to the school district. You can't just do it once, it's every year. One year I forgot, and they called my unlisted cell phone for my eldest. I told the guy that I'm prior service Army, that my ex was Recruiter of the Year in his time, that the daughter knows more about the military bennies than you do, probably, and good luck in talking to her, because she'll probably tell you what you can do with your MEPS station and your contract. He actually took the time to ask why I'd come to that conclusion with my background, I told him, he thanked me for my time and told me he wouldn't be needing to talk to my daughter.
I'm scared for my son, who's 14 and a half. If they bring back the draft, I will sell everything I own to send him back to Hungary to live with my landlords there.
The only time I'm ever grateful for my son's chronic illness is when I think of the possibility of the reinstatement of a military draft--he'll be exempt from fighting, at least.
All parents owe it to their children to present the facts to them before the recruiters/commercials gets their claws into them.
My teenage son was receiving calls and mail from the National Guard, at first coming through like personal mail/calls from a girl...they'll do anything to find a way in to make their pitch.
I'd fight to protect my country in a defensive war and would understand the need for my children to do so but I won't kill others or risk my life and health for some greedy people to make enormous sums of money and gain political and economic territory, and I strongly encourage my children to keep their eyes wide open to what's going on, too.
The government and TPTB have squandered our human and financial resources and our good will capital in the world for NOTHING that benefits the people of this country or Iraq. It is our right to dissent.
This 'war on terror' has depleted US resources so deeply now (and for the future) that we would be in serious trouble if a real international threat arose to challenge us.
