sick dog
Small Bill was up all night with a horrible bloody diarrhea. Vet says it's hemorrhagic gastroenteritis again, don't know what's causing it. At least he's not throwing up this time but I'm worried. Anyone have experience with this nasty crap?

No experience with this, but GOD, my heart. It kills me when I hear of people's little loves being ill, and doubly kills me when mine become sick. I sent a prayer out to my higher power for ya'll, and hope the cute little guy is healed. Hugs and kisses Nette!
Allergies that develop with age?
I'm thinking of you and your little guy, Lynette.
thanks for your positive thoughts for my baby. doc gave him something for diarrhea and some kind of antibiotic, plus some probiotic powders to mix in his food so the bacteria in his gut can be put right (assuming it's off). he's eating, which is good. unless it all comes out again. i hate it when he's sick, but at least they didn't keep him on IVs like the last time. poor baby Bill.
Sorry to hear about your little pumpkin. Hope he is better soon.
Here's hoping your little guy gets better soon. I was heartbroken everytime I took le petit homme to the emergency vet.
No, but hold him tight and love him. Oh, I hate to see dogs suffer.
Hope the baby is ok. Maybe I'll reconsider my desire to have a child now -- imagining nursing a pup with bloody diarrhea is bad enough.
Two of our dogs had a bad case of it a few years back and our lab very nearly died from it. We didn't realize how seriously ill he was until it was almost too late. (Dogs have a habit of eating things that disagree with them and occasionally have diarrhea/vomiting episodes. We thought he would just clear it out of his system after a day, but he just became sicker. I had never heard of HG before.)
Our dogs' HG was caused by a bacterial infection which set in after eating grass clippings that my husband had used to fill up the holes in the backyard our lab had dug. After a lot of rain, the grass became rancid, which made it all the more attractive to the dogs to eat.
After a few days of IV fluids and antibiotics, our dogs were well enough to come home, but it was a lesson well learned. We removed the grass clippings and spent over $300 to refill the holes with dirt and cover them with sod (they were damn big holes!) and monitored/retrained the dogs not to dig holes in the backyard any more.
Some dogs, particularly the toy and miniature breeds, are more prone to HG. What breed of dog is Small Bill?
I hope he recuperates quickly and fully.
Little Bill is a Jack Russell, a feisty little lad. Pretty fit and frisky this morning, no more bloody poop. I think we caught this bout even earlier than the last one. I am hopeful about the good bacteria powders the doc's prescribed. Maybe that will help his little gut recover. . . .
thank you for your good wishes. he is better today.
I'm so glad to hear he's doing better Lynette. It's scary when tehy get sick, because they can't tell us what's wrong, or what they've eaten, where it hurts, etc. Good thoughts...
