death of democracy

"What is the price-current of an honest man and patriot today? They hesitate, and they regret, and sometimes they petition; but they do nothing in earnest and with effect. They will wait, well disposed, for others to remedy the evil, that they may no longer have it to regret." –Thoreau.

I wish I could just stay distracted, with quizzes and auctions and such, but I keep coming back to this. Read it and weep.

Be sure to read the comments that follow--they are as valuable as the article itself and provide suggestions of ways that we can be helpful to ourselves and our communities in the expected dark days ahead--plan ahead and prepare.

One poster put a copy of the information from this link up: http://www.insurgentamerican.net/intellectual-hardball/insurgent-americans-35-point-practical-guide-for-action

It's good to have some realistic, concrete ways to improve our situation and not just sit around worrying and lamenting about the state of affairs in our country.

melanie ~ i looked at that very link. i am hesitant to say that i had been thinking along those lines in recent weeks.

hesitant, because i question myself and my view of reality. if it is really as bad as i think it is, why are people not screeching in outrage and revolting? and then i read the other thing i posted today and it makes sense.

i go back and forth, mainly because i simply cannot believe that my country could turn into this. it is inconceivable, unbelievable, i would have said impossible.

the question: do i need more ammunition or do i need meds?

i'm thinking i need more ammo, but any of y'all feel free to tell me if you think i've gone off the deep end. going off the deep end certainly runs in my family . . .

You are not going off the deep end. It's a terrible nightmare that we wish weren't true, but it does seem very real, doesn't it? Congress has betrayed all of us, repeatedly. After the elections last year, I had some small hope that a collective foot would be put down, to say 'enough is enough' and changes to correct course would be made. I think the lot of Congresspersons have sold us out for position and money. They, in general, can't be patriots in the true sense of the word.

This isn't a matter of Republican or Democrat; I really do think both sides are really parts of the same animal and we've been distracted with the sideshow they've provided us while the real work was being done behind the scenes. There's no other way to explain why Congress has sat back on its haunches and allowed the Constitution and our rights to be trampled repeatedly.

I'm having my husband and son take me target shooting for the first time this weekend, so I can learn to be proficient with guns. I've made a list of other things I'd like to learn, to build my survival skills set.

I feel better being proactive and preparing to protect and preserve my family and help the community through whatever comes our way.

There are millions of decent people living in this country. We will find ways to help each other.

If you don't think the Democrats are in collusion with the Republicans, please read this article by Chris Floyd dated 8/5/07

Danse Macabre: An Apology to Democrats (The article has a twist on the title; don't be fooled by it): http://www.chris-floyd.com/content/view/1248/135/

that one got me too. it makes sense. read subsequent to chris floyd's 2001 "jackboots" writing in the post above this one, it is frightening.

it makes too much sense. we are simply being duped into believing they are working for us. i am reviewing in my mind the rantings of every conspiracy theorist i've ever come across from the global world new order people to the peak oil people and i'm thinking that maybe they were just a bit premature, holding those views back in the '70s and '80s.

Here's more evidence of the fascist state we are becoming. DC Police disrupt and end an announced press conference for advertising the September 15 anti-war march on Washington. Two of the group's members are arrested while legalling putting up posters (which they state they had permits for to do so). Watch it all happen on this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EAfPgX7gs0

I found this information through a link about the September 15 protest on More Cowbell's blog.

Belle, you started something with posting the link to Chris Floyd's piece that's got me all wound up. You might feel better looking away for a while (and you have every right to protect your emotional well-being) but I find that I can't yet. Let me know if you'd like me to stop posting here on the subject.

Oh, I forgot to put a link to the article that explains in more detail the video about the Union Square press conference disruption:

Note that the two arrested, who were speaking at the press conference are Adam Kokesh, a Marine veteran of the Iraq War:

and Tina Richards, who is the mother of a military veteran of the war, as well:

Ignore last link in my most recent post (it's one I put earlier re. the news conference harrassment and arrests).

Here's the one I meant to put up:

http://www.grassrootsamerica4us.org/

If I didn't have young dependent children to watch out for, I'd be tempted to join the protest, even if, in the end, it resulted in little or no change.
