not one red cent

Not one, not a single penny will I send to these spineless Democrats who, today, sold out the progressives of this country. The anger I'm sensing in the netroots is extreme. What the Democrats have done the last two days is despicable. I have been so angry I can't even put a coherent sentence together on the topic. Others have done much better than I ever could. Briefly, habeas corpus is still dead; the soldiers in Iraq will never get a break; but we can pass by 72 to 25 a resolution condemning the MoveOn.Org ad suggesting General Petraeus's report to Congress was less than forthcoming. Bastards. Useless fucking bastards, all of them except the 24 voting against this ridiculous resolution against a fucking ad.

Please read Move On and the Kabuki Congress from The Agonist. Ian Welsh perfectly summarizes what has happened and is happening with these bastards in Washington. I can't even type this without crying. These elected representatives will not do anything to end this war. They will continue to sell us out at every turn. They will allow Bush to do anything he pleases. They are disgusting, revolting, and I despise them.

What to do? Not surprisingly, because people are PISSED, there is a solution: Not One Red Cent of my money will go to "to elected Democrats or organizations that give money to elected democrats. Instead, they will promise to use their money to contribute to progressive organizations and candidates that, as proved by their record, support the furtherance of progressive ideals." Makes sense to me.

I've just given the largest donation of my political life to MoveOn.org. I am sick of the lies. SICK of them. I am sick of a do nothing Congress, of the bullshit we hear/see on television and radio. Except for the 25, I am done with these Democrats and that includes Barack Obama, who pussied out and wouldn't vote. They disgust me, all of them. I am so, so angry.

Addendum: Keith Olbermann's special comment on this whole mess.

I watched Keith's report last night, and was gleeful. He is the only voice in the MSM that truly gets it. I, too, am sick of the morass in D.C.. It's politics as usual, and both parties need to have their clocks cleaned. I have stepped back a bit to keep my sanity intact, while I ponder what it is we can do next as caring, involved, U.S. residents. I am all for fighting these assholes tooth and nail, and am awaiting my opportunity to make a difference. I truly believe that massive change is on the horizon, and am gathering my strength to help make the push. Don't let the state of things overwhelm you, it's just another indication of how far down this country has sunk, and who the players are that need to be pushed aside.

I'm giving Hillary my money, but not until she secures the nomination. (She voted "no" on the MoveOn resolution, FYI).

On the issue at hand, Keith O. is absolutely correct -- it's George W. Bush that made Petraeus a political figure and opened him up to the kind of attack that can only be expected in a society of free people with free speech. And now Bush is mad. According to Dubya, anyone who disagrees with him is "anti-American," and is clearly suffering from the delusion that he is America.

My only comfort is that history will not remember George W. Bush well. And when my nieces and nephews have kids, I'll be able to say to them, proudly, that I was one of the few Americans who opposed Bush from the beginning, who opposed Bush's fearmongering, Bush's warmongering, Bush's rape of the planet, and the lies that are the hallmark of Bush's name and visage. And my Republican brother-in-law (who I love, when I can see past his politics) will meekly stare at his shoes as I rhapsodize.

Funny you should mention this, because my dad and I were talking about this last weekend. Both my father and I have been contributors to the Democratic party for years, until now. My dad, who's a mild-mannered former educator in his 70s, went off on the last three phone solicitors, telling them in no uncertain terms that he was not interested in contributing to a party that refused to take action on the will of its supporters. And then he hung up on them.

Money talks. And lack of money screams like a betch.

Unfortunately George W. Bush has been a poor student of history, never learning the lessons of the Vietnam war, apparently not aware that McCarthyism is dead.

I also noticed that Hilary voted against. Not that that redeems her to me, much.

I'm interested to see how this NotOneRedCent thing pans out. Seeing as I have only contributed to candidates once or twice in my life, I'm sort of a non-factor. I think the only one I'd send money at this point is Kucinich, and he doesn't count in this argument. On second thought, can I send the money to Kucinich's hot wife?

BTW, I mostly avoid political commentary nowadays, besides the Daily Show and the occasional McLaughlin group, but I need to start watching Olbermann regularly - he rocks!

Finally your eyes are opened. These jokers are wusses. Dems or Pubs, it doesn't matter. I stopped giving my hard earned bucks a long while ago. I vote in every election; but my money goes to the SPCA and animal rescue groups. Oh, and a few human charities of my choice as well.

Our political system as it stands today sucks. Not one penny out of your/mine/our coffers and into theirs. Hear?!

Ironic- after being a fully involved member of the democratic party for the past 28 years- both as a volunteer and in the sense of contributing what little cash I could.. I just told the head of the local party to pound sand today when she called to get me to volunteer for a certain event. "But we can always count on you!" Not any more sister..

I have felt totally disenfranchised by my party for years- but somehow thought I was still fighting the good fight in some sense..

Nancy- I am SO very pissed off at you, I have no words..

I was leaning between Hillary and Edwards, but with this vote I'm for Hillary. She could have waffled, she could have pulled an Obama, but she didn't. That says she has balls. I've given quite a chunk of change to Moveon as well. I get slammed by all kinds of progressive groups, but they are the only one I trust.

I hear ya' Belle. I'm actually happy that work has been so busy. I needed the break from the politics, hypocrisy and bullshit.

I now realize I need to step back and gather my strength for the big fight that's coming.

I hate that they are wasting time on a somthing so pointless when there are important things to do but since it IS so pointless I have trouble getting very upset about it.

Glad Clinton voted against it, though.
