Such money to be made on gay marriages! This is what's been missing from the discussion: hard facts regarding the benefit of marriage for all. Couched in these simple terms, the most ardent wingnut should be swayed.

Nothing will sway these people. They are waiting for the rapture to carry them to their self important vantage point way up in the clouds, as their hateful god scorches us infidels with fires of purity and righteous anger. They are just waiting to watch and laugh as all those left behind perish in agony. "I TOLD YOU SO!" they will exclaim gleefully!
So not kidding.
Hold on! Are they saying there's actually a tax deterrent on marriage in New York?
Well apparantly the Province of Ontario is pulling in big dollars from gay couples from the bordering US States who want to tie the knot - license, catering, hotels etc.
Some of ours friends have spent upwards of $10,000.00 on their marriages - big receptions, DJ etc.
So far our marriage - a small thing with six humans - seven if you count the Unitarian Chaplain and 1 dog will so far looks like its going to cost around $700.00: $140.00 for the license, $300.00 for the Chaplain and around $250.00 for the dinner. I'm not counting the new suit I bought cause the old ones had mysteriously dried-up in the closet over the past and didn't fit anymore - I needed it for Rome anyway. Thank God neither one of us have ever done drag - the added expense of a wedding dress would break the bank.
